This recipe for Hungarian coffee cake since I was 25 years ago by my grandmother who loved cooking and baking. The cake has a little time to do. . . as you are making from scratch. What I really like about this recipe is the sweetness and nuts combined. In dissolving the yeast, make sure to use warm (not hot). If the water is too hot, you’ll kill the yeast and will not get a good place to its mass. Ingredients: 2 cups warm (not hot) 2 packages dry yeast1 / 4 cup vegetable shortening1 / 2 cup granulated sugar2 teaspoons salt 1 egg6 1 / 2 to 7 cups all purpose flourIn a large bowl, dissolve two packages yeast with warm water and let stand for 1 minute. Add in shortening, granulated sugar, salt, egg and half all-purpose flour. Mix with a spoon until the dough is smooth, adding enough of remaining flour to thicken until the consistency of dough. You may have to use your hands. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead dough until smooth and elastic. Place dough in well greased bowl and cover with a clean cloth. Let it rise until doubled in size. Additional Ingredients: 1 / 2 cup butter, melted3 / 4 cup granulated sugar1 teaspoon cinnamon1 / 2 cup finely chopped raisinsIn cups NUTS2 a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon and finely chopped nuts and set aside. Cut dough into walnut-size pieces and form into small balls. Roll each ball in melted butter, cinnamon, sugar and mixed nuts. Place a layer of balls so that barely touch each other. . . well oiled by 10 “round tube pan. Sprinkle with a layer of raisins and then add another layer of dumplings, sprinkle with another layer of raisins. Cover the tube pan and let rise for 45 minutes. (You can have to press down the dough to fit them all in the baking dish). Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and invert the pot so that the butter and runs the sugar mixture over the cake.
